I
am truly grateful to Earlene Jenson Roberson, my
wife, and to my grandchildren. God has blessed us
with a beautiful and a very supportive family.
I
am also grateful to you, the people of Las Vegas,
North Las Vegas, Henderson, Nevada (or whatever
city you are from) for the support that you have
given me. I cannot name all the people that have
given their support because there have been MANY.
My
Christian life began EARLY in my grandmother Williana
Roberson's house and at the age of 16 years old,
I accepted Christ in my hometown of Newellton,
Louisiana at the Paradise Baptist church with
Reverend H.Y. Taylor as my pastor.
I
came to Las Vegas July 1957 and united with the
New Jerusalem Baptist Church and Reverend F. N.
Addison was my Pastor. Whatever I am today is
a result of what I was taught and what I learned
from Reverend Addison. My pastor was very supportive
of me. I told Pastor Addison that I had announced
my acceptance to preach the gospel in Hawthorne,
Nevada. Pastor Addison said "You have to
tell these people here at New Jerusalem, if you
tell them today you will preach TONIGHT."
Well, I told the membership. I preached my first
sermon that Sunday night, May 25, 1965 from Psalm
1.
In
1966, I also began my radio broadcast career at
KTOO. I also broadcast from KBMI, KVOV, KCEP and
KLAV, serving in that capacity for 31 years. My
last broadcast was October 5, 1997 on KCEP FM
88.1
I
started my Pastorate at the Community Baptist
Church February 1977 and was installed as Pastor
April 1977. When God sent me to Pastor, I had
only a few members and no permanent place or home
to worship. We moved from the Pittman Women's
Club building in Henderson, Nevada and worshipped
at Zion Methodist in North Las Vegas from 1980
until we moved in our building in 1985. With the
help of God, and you the people, we moved into
our own building.
God
has blessed us to implement many different classes
for study. I was elected in July, 1997, as President
of our Pride of the West District Congress of
Christian Education. I served a dual role as President/Dean
for one term. Currently, I serve as President
of the Nevada/California Interstate Missionary
Baptist Convention Congress of Christian Education.
I am a graduate of the Deans and President class
at the National Baptist Convention Congress of
Christian Education.
We
have extended our Sanctuary and God is still adding
to our congregation. There is still work to be
done! The Apostle Peter urges us to "grow
in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and
Savior Jesus Christ!
